Another look west from Bunnell Rock

Cabot1977

  • Starting up the Bunnell Notch Trail. Nice and easy so far for a nice warm up
  • The southern portion of the Mt. Cabot summit lies ahead
  • A closer look at the southern flanks of Mt. Cabot. The summit is actually behind and to the right of this
  • One of the brook crossings on the lower section of the Bunnell Notch Trail
  • Once the trail leaves the logging roads, it has a mix of climbs and flat sections through the trees as it gets into Bunnell Notch
  • Down in the saddle of the notch, the trail stays on the hill just above the brook
  • At the height of land in Bunnell Notch where the trail meets up with the Kilkenny Ridge Trail
  • The view west from Bunnell Rock. A nice viewpoint just a few feet off the trail
  • Franconia Ridge and Cannon Mountain can be seen off in the distance
  • Small hills to the northwest in the area of Lancaster
  • View to the southeast from Bunnell Rock are a bit limited
  • Another look west from Bunnell Rock
  • Continuing back up the well packed trail, now fully in the spruce
  • This hump of snow on some small trees showed signs of the warm sun melting the snow and then it refreezing at night
  • Most of the hard work now done, I've arrived at Cabot Cabin
  • Cabot Cabin is a small cabin the sleeps 8 hikers. It also provided me a nice place out of the wind to put on dry layers
  • This shot is composed of 4 pictures to show the entire cabin. The trees are pretty thick around it and there isn't much open space between the two
  • Looking out at the view past the cabin
  • The door has a simple hook lock outside to keep it closed when no one is there and a rock goes up against the door to make sure it doesn't rattle as well. Inside, there is just a string to keep it closed
  • The view from the porch of the cabin. Not bad for in the middle of the woods
